For many years during the holiday season, Pride Lafayette has adopted up to 10 families throughout Tippecanoe County (and north central Indiana) and provides them with a full holiday meal and age-appropriate gifts for every member of the family the holiday season (because everyone enjoys a little gift).
This year, we’re expanding to 20-30 families for Christy’s Christmas Carol! Thanks to a generous donation, we’ve been able to expand the program to help more families in need this year.
Nominations are due by Saturday, November 15 and self-nominations are encouraged. Pride Lafayette accepts nominations for all people and families, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Nominees should be located in Tippecanoe County or surrounding counties. Unfortunately, we can not accept nominations for families outside of Indiana.
Due to the anticipated volume, distribution of gifts and meals will take place on Saturday, December 20 at 10am the Pride Lafayette Community Center (640 Main Street.) If an adopted family is not able to come to the Center, we can arrange for delivery in limited circumstances.
“Christy’s Christmas Carol,” is named in in memory of our late board member, Christy Warrig. Wearing her signature cat-ears headbands, Christy spread joy and light wherever she went, even as she struggled with her own loneliness during the holidays — an issue many LGBTQ+ people feel after being ostracized by their families. We can think of no better way to honor Christy’s memory than by spreading joy and light during the holiday season and hope you’ll join with us to make this annual drive a record success.
