ANNUAL EVENTS

Pride Lafayette participates in or hosts a number of events each year. The follow list represents the major events on our calendar. To express your interest in helping us with one of these events, please complete our Get Inolved! Form.

Second Chance Prom (early spring)

The Second Chance Prom usually takes place in February around Valentine's Day. It's our community's opportunity to experience a prom and take the person we really want to go with and come dressed as we're most comfortable. It's held at one of many festival local venues. Many of us were unable to go with the person we really wanted to go with to our high school prom. At this event, everyone can feel free to bring who they wish and dress how they want.

Pride Lafayette Anniversary (April)

Each April we celebrate another year of Pride Lafayette being around to serve the local community. The way we've celebrated has varied from year to year. Watch our newsletters, emails and this web site for information on the next celebration.

Harvey Milk Day (May 22)

Harvey Milk Day is observed each May 22 in remembrance of Gay Rights Activist Harvey Milk who was assassinated in 1978. Each year, Pride Lafayette offers programming to commemorate Harvey Milk and his lasting legacy to the LGBT community.

Circle City IN Pride (June)

Each year we've been in existance, Pride Lafayette has hosted a booth at the annual Indianapolis pride festival in June. We typically have information pamphlets as well as pride gear (beads, buttons, etc.) available for people to take for a donation. For information on the upcoming Circle City IN Pride stay tuned to Indy Pride, Inc..

OUTfest: Tippecanoe County Pride (August)

OUTfest is our local pride celebration. The purpose of OUTfest is to increase public awareness of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community, and to celebrate diversity among family, friends, and straight allies. Additionally, we hope to educate residents in Tippecanoe County about the availability of LGBTI organizations and services. OUTfest features live bands and DJs, food, information booths, beer gardens, a family area, dancing, light-hearted drag entertainment, extended hours for local downtown businesses, and much more! For more details, check out the OUTfest site.

National Coming Out Week (October)

National Coming Out Day is an internationally-observed civil awareness day for coming out and discussion about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) issues. It is observed by members of the LGBT communities and our supporters (often referred to as "allies") on October 11 every year, or October 12 in the United Kingdom. In 2009, Pride Lafayette hosted our first National Coming Out Day celebration at the Pride Lafayette Community Center. The afternoon of events featured a carry-in lunch, the sharing of coming out stories, and the movie "Ma Vie En Rose" (1997). We look forward to hosting similar events in coming years. As of 2010, we have partnered with Purdue for their National Coming Out Day and we now offer a week of events which includes panel discussions, movie screenings, OUT bowling, etc. Watch for this years events as they change from year to year!

Transgender Day of Remembrance (November)

The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999.
