PFLAG: PARENTS AND FRIENDS OF LESBIANS AND GAYS

This is an international organization that seeks to provide support and education to parents, family, and friends who have loved ones who are gay, lesbian, or bisexual. We have our own chapter right here in the Lafayette area. PFLAG Lafayette/Tippecanoe County meets on the 1st Thursday of every month.

The local chapter is one of the three sponsoring organizations for the PRYSM youth group. See the Youth Group link of this web site for more information about PRYSM.

Our community is on a continuous path to becoming more welcoming and inclusive to all citizens. With this effort there is an ongoing need to lift the awareness of our local workforce, government leaders, non-profit volunteers, faith communities, friends, and family members regarding the topics of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Recently, a partnership of local organizations and individuals was formed to address this need. Founding partners in the Tippecanoe County Ally Network include Pride Lafayette, Inc., Citizens for Civil Rights, PFLAG, and the ALLY Association (a Purdue student organization). We would like to invite other organizations and individuals to join us in our mission to enhance awareness, foster understanding, and ensure the safety of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex.

Our vision is focused on a series of training seminars covering a variety of topics. Each partnering organization will be contributing their special skills and expertise in conducting one or more of the seminars. This unprecedented partnership will strengthen our ties while also engaging the greater community in order to improve the quality of life for everyone.

Your support may be given in one of several ways: 1) organizational or individual commitment to assist with planning/conducting training sessions, 2) organizational or individual monetary support, 3) participation in and completion of the training program. Monthly meetings are currently underway to plan the training program, which is targeted to begin in September 2008.

Please contact us at info@pridelafayette.org for more information on the program or to express interest in assisting with the planning.
